MUSIC FOR MY THRILLER OPENING

MUSIC FOR HORROR THRILLER OPENINGS

As part of my AS Coursework, I have to create my own music / soundtrack to the opening of the horror - thriller movie ( First two or three minutes). I will be creating the music on the app called GarageBand.

How do film-makers manipulate our emotions with music?

  1. Heightened senses - It demonstrates the importance of music in film, and the power a soundtrack can have over audiences. Composer Neil Brand, presenter of BBC Four's The Music that Made the Movies, believes our senses are already heightened as we enter the cinema.
  2. Noise of panic - A 2010 study by the University of California found that human sensitivity to non-linear alarm sounds, such as ones made by groundhogs to warn about predators, is being employed by film composers to unsettle and unnerve.
  3. Extreme vibrations -Film composers know that and use it to shortcut the logical part of our brain and get straight to the emotional centres. Some filmmakers are now using infrasound to induce fear in audiences. These extreme bass waves or vibrations have a frequency below the range of the human ear. While we may not be able to hear infrasound, it has been demonstrated to induce anxiety, extreme sorrow, heart palpitations and shivering. Naturally-occurring infrasound has been associated with areas of 'supernatural activity', as well as being produced prior to natural disasters such as storms and earthquakes.

Here are some soundtracks I could use an example before starting to create my own music to the horror - thriller opening.

Dramatic Music - "The Strangers" (Emotional Thriller And Horror)

I catch you - Horror - Thriller - Soundtrack by Giovanni puocci

This is how I made the music to mine and Georgia's opening sequence horror thriller. I used Garageband to help me with composing it. I have used many eery and creepy sounds to make it sound frightening and suspicious. These are the steps of how i made it.

This soundtrack will be used in our "AFTER YOU" thriller opening sequence which you will here soon.

TITLE ANALYSIS OF FILM "CAPE FEAR"

TITLE ANALYSIS OF THE FILM "CAPE FEAR" (1991)

Cape Fear is a 1991 American psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese and a remake of the 1962 film of the same name. It stars Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, and Juliette Lewis, and features cameos from Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Martin Balsam, who all appeared in the original film.
The film tells the story of a convicted rapist who, using mostly his newfound knowledge of the law and its numerous loopholes, seeks vengeance against a former public defender whom he blames for his 14-year imprisonment due to purposefully faulty defence tactics used during his trial.

                                                Cape Fear

In both films "Vertigo" and "Cape Fear" a HOMAGE is used by the directors. A homage is an allusion or imitation by one artist to another. it is a respectful imitation of the work of another director , as a way of paying tribute to an another director or movie.

Martin Scorsese and De Niro (made the film Cape Fear) both  decided that they wanted their version of Cape Fear to be a conscious homage to Hitchcock's Vertigo film. For example the effect of eyes in both opening sequences and the colour red in both opening sequences too.

TITLE ANALYSIS OF FILM "SIGNS"

TITLE ANALYSIS OF THE FILM SIGNS (2002)

In Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Colleen Hess, the wife of local priest Reverend Graham Hess, dies a horrific death in a traffic accident. After the accident, Graham denounces his faith and his vocation to work full time on his farm. His brother, Merrill, a former minor league baseball player known more for his batting brawn than his finesse, moves into the farmhouse to assist his brother in looking after Graham's two adolescent children, asthmatic son Morgan and daughter Bo, who has a finicky taste for water. Six months after the accident, crop circles appear in Graham's corn field. They initially speculate that local trouble-making youth could be the culprits. However they learn that theirs is only one of a number of crop circles made simultaneously worldwide. In addition, animals have been acting erratically. Morgan and Bo seem to have a better sense of what is happening than the adults. Based on other evidence, the family slowly begins to believe that the crop circles are only one of many signs being sent by extraterrestrials. Not knowing if the extraterrestrials are friendly or not, the Hesses take extreme precautions to protect themselves. Graham also begins to believe that nothing that happens is by chance, and that everything has a reason.
